How Counseling Works

Your child begins with an intake and assessment. The team then matches your child or teen with a clinician based on individual strengths and needs.

Sessions may include play therapy for children, structured skill-building activities, cognitive behavioral strategies, or talk-based counseling approaches. Therapists tailor activities to your child’s age, strengths, and goals, helping them build practical skills they can use at home, school, and in the community. Parents and caregivers are active participants throughout the process and receive guidance to help reinforce new skills at home and in everyday routines. When anxiety is present, clinicians may incorporate evidence-based anxiety interventions such as exposure practice, relaxation strategies, and coping plans.

Clinicians stay in close communication with the interdisciplinary care team so strategies remain consistent across settings and evolve as your child’s needs change. This coordinated approach helps ensure continuity of care across providers. We revisit goals regularly and adjust treatment plans to support your child’s ongoing growth and progress.
